Happy New Year! I hope you and your families enjoyed the Holidays together and that you are all looking forward to the upcoming 2009 Wedding Season.

As some of you may know, we have a new addition at KPW. Lola has a new brother (of the baby variety). Zachary Ryan Parker was born November 13th 5:44 a.m. He was 20in. long and weighed 7lbs. 8oz. Zachary will be at a KPW wedding event somewhere near you this upcoming season. We have also decided to do a quarterly magazine rather than monthly so expect to get an issue each season.

The holidays always brings out the best in people but, we can't forget that once they are over, there are still many people and animals who need our generosity. Even in this holiday season and difficult economy it is still the perfect time to give back and help those less fortunate than us. You could donate your old coats, volunteer at a soup kitchen, buy a toy for children, visit a nursing home or children in a hospital, or you could donate food to your local SPCA.

Warmest Regards,

KP

January 1st you can find KPW in a number of local and national magazines. We are most excited about the upcoming issue of New Hampshire Magazine Bride as one of our bouquets is featured of the cover of the spring issue. Be sure to check out the featured article on Tablescapes that we designed as well. You can also find our work in Seacoast Bride magazine as well as a featured wedding in The Knot Boston.

We have an advance copy of the 2009 Seacoast Bride Magazine and here's a sneak peak of the cover. It hits newstands January 5th and you'll find lots of our photos and insight throughout the magazine.

Originally planning a wedding in Southern Maine, Andrea and James settled on a unique venue in Milton, New York called Buttermilk Falls Inn and Spa. Looking for a very romantic design they wanted a fairly muted pallet (cream, champagne, copper) with touches of periwinkle. The floral design was set off by the richness of copper silk Dupioni linens and highlighted by the numerous candles of varying heights that created a runner down each of the long family style tables. The weather and the setting were so beautiful we were more than happy to travel outside of normal radius for such a wonderful couple.

Daily Decor:  Hosting A Winter Dinner Party

Now that the hectic holiday season is behind us, perhaps you would like to invite a few friends over for a intimate dinner party. Here are a few tips to consider when planning your soiree:

1. Pick your Palate -  Most likely there's a blanket of snow outside so consider that a clean palate to start with. Go with an icy theme, incorporating white, silver, and maybe even some black tones. Consider bringing spring early to your home with a vibrant chartreuse, yellow, and orange palate to add warmth to the bitter cold. You can incorporate these colors through your centerpiece, napkin rings, place cards, and even votives on the table. For an extra bit of pizzaz, create a custom chair back with ribbons for a more dramatic affect and color saturation. Don't forget to keep your centerpieces low to encourage across-the-table conversations.

2. Combine Textures - When designing your tablescape, mix up your textures. Try a slate placemat or a burlap runner to set off your centerpiece. You can incorporate antiques you might already have or you can purchase some inexpensive tableware to spice up your food presentation.

3. Continuity is Key - From start to finish, make sure you find creative ways to keep your theme going from the decorations to dessert. For a wintry themed dinner, create a first course appetizer from acorn or butternut squash, a very seasonal item that won't break your budget. Add some citrus to your salad for your springtime themed dinner. Fresh mandarin oranges might not be in season but you can get canned slices at any grocery store. Add a bit of whimsy with a signature drink, incorporating either your color scheme, theme, or both if you can. A cranberry pomegranate martini is perfect for your wintry theme.
